Four more wildfires have come back to life, 70 kilometers north of Fort Nelson. The BC Wildfire Service said all four of the blazes are holdover fires from 2023.
All of the fires are burning out of control, the largest of which is listed as 80 hectares in size.
The wildfire service said the recent dry temperatures and wind have helped the fires to re-ignite.
Crews are responding to the fires based on the risk to the public and potential for growth. Firefighters are having to deal with fallen trees, so aircraft have been brought in to assist in the fight.
Eleven fires are burning in the Fort Nelson Fire Zone, all of which are holdover fires from 2 years ago.
There is no real reprieve in the weather forecast with windy conditions expected over the next few days.
Karley Desrosiers with BC Wildfire Service said, “With the on-going drought conditions in the region, there is a potential for new fires to start and to grow quickly.”
The wildfire service is reminding the public to report any new fires and to be extra cautious this weekend.
