Four former NHL players were in Fort St. John last week for the 20th annual Fort St. John Petroleum Association four-on-four hockey tournament.

Brian Skrudland, Rich and Ron Sutter, and Kirk McLean were special guests. The tournament ran from April 8 to 11 and featured 110 players divided into 10 teams.

The four NHL alumni discussed their careers at a banquet held during the event and made appearances on the ice with each team.

The four players also hit a different kind of ice while visiting Fort St. John. They spent a day ice fishing on Stewart Lake with local resident Stephen Wile. “The players really enjoyed the community,” he said.

The hockey tournament is one of five major events organized by the association for its members each year. Organizers say this year’s event was a huge success, with a lot of camaraderie, and they are looking forward to next year.
