The City of Fort St. John has approved changes to its naming rights policy, a move that could generate significant revenue in the coming years.
The policy was originally written in 2009 and has been revised to reflect current industry standards.
The city can now sell naming rights for its facilities to companies, organizations, or individuals.
The city said most recreational and community facilities can be renamed, excluding core services, such as city hall, fire halls, and police stations.
In October, council reviewed the potential annual revenue from naming rights for 12 venues and parks across the city.
The city could generate up to $525,000 per year by selling naming rights for these locations, including the Pomeroy Sport Centre and the North Peace Arena.
Companies involved in life-threatening products, religious or political groups, or smoking and vaping products are not eligible for naming rights.
