In response to the growing threat of cybercrime, the City of Fort St. John will host the Northern Cyber Defence Conference.

The one-day workshop is designed to equip individuals and organizations with the tools and knowledge to defend against cyber-attacks and recover from them effectively.

The conference will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre. It will feature national cybersecurity experts, including keynote speaker Chris Mathers, and firsthand accounts from City staff following the City’s February 2025 cyber incident.

“Cybersecurity is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity,” said Milo MacDonald, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Fort St. John. “Our experience earlier this year was a wake-up call. We’re sharing our story to highlight the risks and show how communities can unite, learn, and emerge stronger.”

The event is open to anyone who wants to learn how to safeguard against cyber threats through expert-led sessions, networking opportunities, and practical cyber preparedness and response strategies.

Breakfast will be provided by the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Development, with lunch generously sponsored by MNP.
