The City of Fort St. John is inviting businesses, organizations and community groups to register floats for this year’s Canada Day parade.

The annual celebration will begin on June 30 with movies in the park, a market, food trucks and a drone show.

Canada Day festivities continue on July 1 with a pancake breakfast at the fire hall, followed by the parade along 100 Street and activities at Centennial Park, including live music, food trucks and a kids zone.

Parade participants are asked to gather at 10 a.m. on July 1 for marshalling on 100 Street between 111 Avenue and 107 Avenue.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m., travelling south on 100 Street before ending near 96 Avenue.

City officials say the parade’s success relies on community participation and are encouraging local groups to decorate a float and take part in the celebration.

Registration is free, but organizers are asking participants to sign up in advance.

Those interested can find registration forms and parade requirements on the City’s website. The deadline to register a float is June 22 at 4:30 p.m.

The city is introducing a drone show for the first time this year, replacing traditional Canada Day fireworks that have been cancelled in recent years due to wildfire-related restrictions.
