Fort St. John residents take part in Canada Celebrates as FIFA World Cup began Thursday

Football fans in Fort St. John are taking in the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this week as the Canada Celebrates tour makes a stop in the city.

The free, family-friendly event got underway Thursday and continues Friday at Centennial Park, starting at 11 a.m. each day.

Visitors can watch World Cup matches live while taking part in football-themed activities, cultural programming, and enjoying food and music.

The event is designed to bring communities together and celebrate a historic moment for the country, as Canada hosts FIFA World Cup matches for the first time.

Canada’s national men’s team opens its tournament Friday against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto.

After Fort St. John, the Canada Celebrates tour will head to Tumbler Ridge on Monday.
