The Peace Region has seen a lot of snow and more snow and colder temperatures are on the way. The Fort St John RCMP say they have been experiencing a higher call volume of collisions due to the weather and road conditions.
Mounties say Police Service Dog Mako and his handler are bundling up to take to the roads to be ready for whatever the weather throws at them.
Mako wants to remind all drivers that their vehicles are required to be equipped with winter tires from October 1st to April 30th to better handle the wintery northern road conditions, an emergency kit would also be beneficial.
Drivers and passengers should dress for the weather when traveling and pack an emergency kit with extra warm clothing, food and water. Being prepared by carrying items like a shovel and tow strap in the event of an “off-road experience” can always be beneficial.
The Fort St John RCMP also want to remind the public to slow down and drive according to the winter conditions. Avoid travel if you don’t have to be out on the roads and stay warm inside, safe at home when travel can be avoided or delayed.
