FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - Fort St. John RCMP are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate a suspect following a violent home invasion and sexual assault earlier this week.
Police say the incident happened around 11 p.m. on October 27 in the 8900-block of 87 Street.
According to RCMP, an unknown man followed a female to her home before entering the residence. People inside the home managed to scare the suspect away and contacted police, prompting a neighbourhood search.
Investigators say the man was not located and later returned to the residence, where he sexually assaulted a second resident before being scared off a second time.
The Fort St. John RCMP General Investigative Section has since taken over the investigation.
“Local police find this behaviour very concerning and believe he may attempt to reoffend,” said Jennifer Cooper, BC RCMP spokesperson for Northern B.C.
RCMP are urging anyone who may have seen the suspect in the neighbourhood, or who captured video from a security camera or dash camera, to contact the Fort St. John RCMP non-emergency line at 250-787-8140.
The suspect is described as a man in his mid-30s who is tall, heavier set, and has a beard. Police say he was wearing black pants, a black hoodie and a hat at the time of the offence.
Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is asked to contact police. The investigation remains ongoing.
