FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - Residents using the North Peace Leisure Pool in Fort St. John can expect a few temporary disruptions Thursday as crews complete a repair in the facility’s mechanical room.
The City of Fort St. John says work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and is expected to take one day.
Despite the repair, the leisure pool, lap pool, sauna and steam rooms will remain open to the public.
However, city officials say visitors should expect some impacts while the work is underway.
The waterslides will be closed during the repair, hot water for showers may be limited during busy periods, and pool water temperatures are expected to gradually cool throughout the day.
The maintenance notice comes just weeks after the city reopened the leisure pool and waterslides ahead of schedule following repairs to a circulation pump.
The facility temporarily closed after staff discovered significant internal corrosion in the pump during routine monitoring.
Repairs were completed sooner than originally anticipated, allowing the leisure pool to reopen on July 17.
The city says normal operations are expected to resume once the work is completed.
The maintenance work also comes as Fort St. John continues planning for a proposed new aquatics facility.
Earlier this year, city council approved a $1.36 million contract to advance detailed design and cost estimates for the project, which is currently estimated at up to $185 million.
A public referendum on the project is planned for October 2026.
