FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The Fort St. John Huskies picked up three straight wins over the Thanksgiving weekend, while the Dawson Creek Kodiaks came away empty-handed in a pair of home games.
The Huskies opened the weekend Friday night with a 4-3 victory over the Fairview Flyers at the North Peace Arena.
Fort St. John followed that up with a 3-1 win over the La Crete Lumber Barons on Saturday before capping off the weekend Sunday with a decisive 7-1 victory over the Sexsmith Vipers.
The three-win weekend vaults the Huskies near the top of the NWJHL standings heading into another busy stretch of games.
Fort St. John returns to action Wednesday when the Flyers visit North Peace Arena before the Huskies host the Kodiaks on Saturday night.
Tough weekend for Kodiaks
The Dawson Creek Kodiaks were unable to take advantage of home ice at the Ovintiv Events Centre this weekend.
The Kodiaks fell 5-4 to the La Crete Lumber Barons on Friday night in a closely contested matchup.
Things did not get any easier Saturday as the County of Grande Prairie Wheat Kings handed Dawson Creek a 13-2 defeat.
The losses leave the Kodiaks looking to rebound as they head into a rivalry matchup against the Huskies this weekend.
Rivalry Renewed Saturday
The next chapter of the Highway 97 rivalry takes place Saturday night when the Dawson Creek Kodiaks travel to North Peace Arena to face the Fort St. John Huskies.
