FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The Fort St. John Huskies opened their 2026-27 regular season on a tough note, dropping both games of a weekend road series against the La Crete Lumber Barons.
The Huskies came up just short in Saturday’s season opener, falling 6-5 in a back-and-forth contest at Raymond Knelsen Arena in La Crete.
Fort St. John could not overcome an early deficit as the Barons scored three times in the first period and added two more goals in the third.
Fort St. John finished the game with a with an edge in shots on goal and converted on two of six power-play opportunities, but La Crete capitalized twice on the man advantage to secure the win.
The Lumber Barons completed the weekend sweep on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over the Huskies.
La Crete opened the scoring midway through the first period before Fort St. John tied the game in the second.
The Barons responded less than three minutes later and pulled away with two third-period goals.
Special teams were a factor throughout the weekend. After scoring twice on the power play in Saturday’s opener, the Huskies went goalless on seven opportunities Sunday.
The two losses leave Fort St. John searching for its first win of the regular season after being outscored 10-6 over the opening weekend.
