Hunter fined after killing caribou out of season near Pink Mountain

A hunter has been fined $5,015 for killing wildlife while not in open season. Adam Ward-Pattison pled guilty to the charges after a northern mountain caribou was killed near Pink Mountain.

The incident occurred in October 2022. The animal was initially thought to be a white-tailed deer buck.

Ward - Pattison reported the incident to the BC Conservation Service after determining the animal was a female caribou. Northern mountain caribou are a species at risk.

Ward-Pattison is prohibited from hunting, or accompanying hunters, anywhere in BC for three years.

The cow caribou was seized by CO’s and donated to a local first nation. The majority of the fine will go to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.
