Fort St. John residents are being advised that for the second day in a row, the Fort St. John Hospital is experiencing higher than usual patient volumes.

Northern Health said that wait times in the various departments, including the emergency department, may be longer than usual.

The health authority said to help reduce strain on emergency and acute care resources at the hospital, those with less urgent care needs are advised to visit their primary care provider/family physician’s office during regular business hours.

Individuals who require emergency attention should call 9-1-1, or visit the local emergency room. Northern Health’s emergency rooms tend to patients who have experienced a sudden and/or unusual change in their health. This includes, but is not limited to, breathing difficulties, severe bleeding or pain, chest pain, broken bones, and eye injuries.

Northern Health also said the NH Virtual Clinic is back up and running online, after it was unable to access patient’s appointment information on Monday.

If you have a Virtual Clinic appointment scheduled with a health care providers Monday or Tuesday, Northern Health will connect with you as soon as they are able.
