A city councillor from Fort St. John has been fined by Elections BC. Trevor Bolin has been ordered to pay $650 in connection with the 2022 civic election.
As an undeclared candidate, Bolin was allowed to contribute up to $2,500 to his own campaign. Elections BC said that he overspent the limit by $1,396.
During the 2022 campaign, he re-used signs from his 2018 campaign that were already paid for and declared. However, Elections BC said even though he re-used the signs in his latest campaign, he didn’t report the cost of the signs, a second time.
Bolin paid the money back and declared the repayment to Elections BC, but was still fined anyways.
“I appreciate and respect that BC Elections monitors, investigates and reviews the disclosures that politicians make. Although i may not agree that candidates are not allowed to finance their own campaigns and have to accept donations, I will live within the rules as set out,” said Bolin.
