The City of Fort St. John has awarded a construction contract for the replacement of the 106 Street water reservoir.

The contact was awarded to Chandos Construction LP of Edmonton for the price of $7,996,330, with up to an additional $100,000 available from water reserves in the 2026 budget if needed.

City officials said the current reservoir is nearing the end of its service life and is a critical part of the city’s water system.

The new reservoir design will increase capacity by more than 3,000 m³, expanding from 6,000 m³ to 9,2000 m³.

The project aligns with the long-term planning by accommodating 50 years of projected city growth and providing enough fire storage for major industrial fire.

The total project cost exceeds the $8.5-million budget by about $50,000, but the city expects it to stay within budget due to a $250,000 contingency that may not be needed.

Constriction is expected to be completed by late 2026.
