The City of Fort St. John is taking necessary steps to prepare for the 2026 municipal election.
At the latest council meeting, key officials were appointed to oversee the voting process.
Bonnie McCue, the city’s Corporate Officer, has been appointed Chief Election Officer.
Christina Brace, Deputy Corporate Officer, will serve as Deputy Chief Election Officer.
The appointments are a required step under the Local Government Act as the municipality prepares for the upcoming fall election.
Election officials are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the vote, including organizing voting opportunities, managing nominations, appointing additional election staff, and ensuring the process is conducted in accordance with provincial legislation.
The general local election is scheduled for October 17 this year.
In addition to the election, the city says it will be seeking voter approval to borrow funds for the new aquatics facility.
Key dates for the election process include a nomination period beginning September 1, advance voting opportunities on October 7 and October 14, and general voting day on October 17.
City officials say funding for election administration has already been included in the approved operating budget.
