On the second anniversary of her disappearance, police and the family of a missing Indigenous woman are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help them find her.
Karen Tessier was last seen on July 9, 2024, in Fort Nelson. Her black Dodge Caravan was found burned in a gravel pit outside northern B.C. community five days later.
Police say despite “extensive investigative efforts” and following up on every tip, she has not been found.
In an RCMP statement Friday, Tessier’s mother Elizabeth Burke pleaded for answers.
“If you know Karen and you know something, please come forward and be a true friend to her,” Burke is quoted as saying. “I believe you can be brave and talk about what happened. Please help her family find answers. We want to know where Karen is.”
Last year, the Fort Nelson First Nation, of which Tessier is a member, announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to a significant development in the case.
Tessier is described as a 57-year-old Indigenous woman, 5’5” tall and 177 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black and white patterned dress.
Anyone with information is urged to call the North District Major Crime Unit’s dedicated tip line for the case at 250-561-8888.
