Municipal hall in Fort Nelson was forced to close last Thursday due to a structural issue.
Town officials say they believe heavy snowfall accumulating on the building’s roof contributed to the damage to its structural integrity.
Municipal hall is located in a building that also houses other facilities, including the library, Service BC and the Phoenix Theatre.
According to Northern Rockies Regional Municipality social media posts, the east side of the complex was also affected, forcing some facilities to be temporarily shut down.
The posts say Northern Rockies Fire Rescue monitored the site while structural engineers assessed the damage.
Those engineers deemed most facilities are now safe for the public to visit, except the town hall, which remains closed.
A Friday post says a more in-depth assessment is expected to be completed within 10 days. It adds town hall staff are available by phone while the building stays closed.
A Saturday update says crews began clearing snow from the roof and thanked the public for its patience and co-operation.
