A new piece of medical equipment is now helping support patient care at Fort Nelson General Hospital, thanks to a donation aimed at improving healthcare access in the North.
The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, alongside the Fort Nelson Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, says Northwestel has funded a vital signs machine for the hospital. The contribution marks the first year of a three-year commitment to the community.
The machine is used daily by healthcare workers to monitor key indicators like blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and oxygen levels. The Spirit of the North Foundation says the equipment is used daily and is critical for patient care.

According to the foundation, the need for the machine was identified by frontline medical teams in Fort Nelson, with Northwestel stepping in to help fill that gap.
“We are incredibly thankful to Northwestel for supporting the purchase of this new vital signs machine for Fort Nelson General Hospital,” said Aimee Cassie, CEO, Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
Cassie adds Northwestel’s investment demonstrates how strong local partnerships can help reduce healthcare barriers in northern communities.
Northwestel president Curtis Shaw says the contribution is part of the company’s broader effort to support northern communities and invest in local healthcare.
