Former Site C worker sentenced to three years in jail for 2024 stabbing

A former Site C construction worker has been sentenced to three years in jail after a stabbing at the worksite.

According to the BC Prosecution Service, Stephen Barnes was found guilty to aggravated assault in a Fort St. John court provincial court.

The stabbing happened on March 24, 2024. Police said at the time, the incident involved two employees, but the events leading up to the stabbing were not related to their work.

When police arrived, the male victim had serious injuries and was receiving first aid. He was later transported to hospital for further treatment.

Barnes was arrested without incident and has remained in custody. The court imposed a three-year sentence, including 222 days to be served after crediting 572 days of pre-sentence custody as 858 days.

The court also imposed a two-year probation and a teen-year firearms and weapon prohibition.
