Charges have been laid against a former candidate for mayor in Dawson Creek. Shaely Wilbur is facing a charge of criminal breach of trust.
The allegations stem from Wilbur’s time at the Obair Economic Society. She was the Executive Director at the registered charity, from December 2021 to September 2022.
It’s been alleged that Wilbur used the non-profit’s credit card for unauthorized spending. The amount is thought to be around $45,000.
CJDC TV New has been investigating the allegation against Wilbur for the past four months. She was served with a summons on May 6th, 2025.
It’s important to note, that the allegations against her have not been proven in a court of law.
In April, CDC TV News reported that Wilbur was fined $4875 for accepting campaign contributions from businesses.
In October 2022, Wilbur was defeated in a landslide in the race for mayor by Darcy Dober. Dober was elected with 1,855 votes while Wilbur received 304 votes.
Wilbur acted as her own financial agent during the campaign. The former three-term city councillor was then notified by Elections BC, about possible contraventions to the Elections Act.
In a letter sent to Wilbur from the agency, she claimed the donations were from individuals. She was then asked to prove the money came from private bank accounts and not business accounts.
The agency says Wilbur didn’t send the requested documents to them and stopped responding to the investigator handling her case.
CJDC TV News reached out to Wilbur for comment, however we did not hear back from her.
