The City of Fort St. John has announced the Fish Creek Wildfire is officially extinguished and residents can return to using the Community Forest.
The fire started on May 1st and quickly grew to over 50 hectares in size. 19 homes were evacuated; however residents were allowed to return home the next day.
The city is asking residents to stay on marked trails and avoid any areas that were impacted by the recent wildfire. Dogs must be on a leash and people are being reminded to be aware of their surroundings and give wildlife plenty of space.
City officials are also asking that if residents spot any hazards to report them to city hall.
The city said, “Preliminary findings indicate the fire is considered non-suspicious and was not deliberately set.” A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
