The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJWRS) in partnership with Northern Health, is launching a new Health Services program at The Healing Place.
In a press release the FSJWRS said, “this innovative initiative is one of a kind in BC, providing vital health and wellness services to low-income families in the region.”
The Health Team is comprised of a Nurse, a Mental Health and Substance Use Clinician, and a Life Skills Worker. The Healing Place offers a range of services including detox support, blood spot testing, wound care, vulnerability assessment and life skills and budgeting education.
“This partnership is making a real impact and driving social change in our community,” says Amanda Trotter, Executive Director of the FSJ W.R.S.
Clients will also have and access to the Northern Health Connections bus for medical appointments.
“By providing these essential tools, we are facilitating positive change in people’s lives and empowering them to strive for a better future, regardless of their background, religion, sexual orientation, or any other factor. This program is about empowering people to live their best lives,” said Trotter
This program targets families with a gross annual income of $42,000 or less, with an additional $2,000 allowance per child.
The FSJWRS said, “this is the only charitable organization in BC offering this comprehensive, integrated service model.”
Walk-in hours at The Healing Place for the Health Team are Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Healing Centre is located at 9912 96th Avenue in Fort St. John. Individuals are being encouraged to call 250-787-1121 beforehand to confirm availability.
Free HIV testing is also available at The Healing Place year-round, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in a safe and judgment-free environment. No appointment is needed for HIV testing.
