DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Residents across the Peace River Regional District have one final opportunity this week to provide feedback on potential changes to local waste and recycling services.
The PRRD is inviting the public to attend its final engagement events for the Solid Waste Network Assessment on Thursday, September 24.
The assessment is examining possible improvements to waste and recycling services throughout the region.
A World Café session runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the PRRD office in Dawson Creek.
Organizers say participants will be able to connect with others in small groups, learn more about the proposed changes and share their experiences with the current system.
Discussions are expected to focus on topics including service upgrades at key locations, changes to operating hours and expanded recycling opportunities.
A drop-in open house will follow from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the same location, giving residents another opportunity to learn about the project and provide feedback throughout the afternoon.
According to the PRRD, its regional solid waste network currently includes three landfills, 16 attended transfer stations, 11 unattended transfer stations, three privately operated recycling depots and three unattended recycling drop-off sites.
The district says improving access to and increasing the efficiency of the regional waste facility network was identified as a key priority in its 2021 Regional Solid Waste Management Plan.
Residents who cannot attend Thursday’s events can learn more about the project and submit feedback online through the PRRD’s public engagement website or by emailing the district’s Environmental Services Department.
