DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A new federal investment aimed at strengthening British Columbia’s forest sector could have implications for forestry‑dependent communities in Northeast B.C., including Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.
The Government of Canada is investing $12.4 million into 14 projects across the province, with the goal of supporting jobs, improving competitiveness, and helping the industry adapt to ongoing challenges.
According to the federal government, the funding will support projects focused on low‑carbon wood technologies, mass timber construction, value‑added manufacturing, and Indigenous‑led forestry initiatives.
Ottawa says the investment is designed to help modernize the forest sector while strengthening communities that rely on it.
While none of the projects are specifically identified by region in the announcement, forestry remains a key economic driver in the Peace Region, including Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, where mills, contractors, and supply chains continue to face pressure from market volatility and trade challenges.
The federal government says the investment is being delivered through Natural Resources Canada’s forest sector transformation programs and is part of a broader effort to ensure the long‑term sustainability of the industry and the communities it supports across British Columbia.
