Fatal crash closes Highway 97 in the Pine Pass

On the afternoon of August 16, police responded to a fatal crash that shut down Highway 97 near Mackenzie.

BC Highway Patrol said a black Dodge Ram 3500 pickup that was towing a flat-deck trailer collided with a black Ford Bronco at 1:45 pm in the Pine Pass near Bijoux Falls.

“The driver and a passenger in the black Dodge Ram were taken to hospital along with the driver and one passenger in the Ford Bronco,” said BC Highway Patrol.

They added that a 28-year-old woman from North Vancouver, a second passenger in the Ford Bronco, did not survive the collision.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol said investigators are seeking for witnesses to the minutes leading up to the crash.

Anyone who saw the events leading up to this collision or has dashcam video is asked to call BC Highway Patrol, Prince George, at 250-649-6004 and quote file (3100) 2025-664. Highway 97 has since reopened.
