Failed u-turn leads to two semi drivers being ticketed in Fort Nelson

Two semi-truck drivers got the attention of BC Highway Patrol after falling to attempt a simple maneuver last week.

On Thursday, the truck fell apart when the driver tried a U-turn. It ended up blocking the way to Fort Nelson and blocking the BC highway patrol at the same time.

The truck, full of mail, had snapped a rear axle and blown its axle air bags, according to police.

“When our police officers spoke with the tandem drivers of the tractor-trailer, they found more problems,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. He says both drivers were ticketed for falsified or incorrect log books.

The trailer was towed away, and a competitor tow-truck drove away with the mail, but not without consequences. The new tow-truck driver was also ticketed, but this time, for using an electric device while driving.

“Most commercial drivers understand that there is a higher expectation of safety and professionalism for people who drive big, heavy rigs,” says Corporal McLaughlin. He adds BC Highway Patrol will be there when these drivers don’t take their responsibilities seriously enough.
