Some students in the Peace Region woke up to a snow day as extreme cold led to a flurry of bus cancellations this morning.
In Peace River South, school buses are not operating in both Dawson Creek and Chetwynd. Meanwhile, in School District 60, a number of routes north of Fort St. John face all-day cancellations including:
- Altona
- Buick
- Clearview
- Clearview/FSJ
- Doig River
- Prespatou
- Rose Prairie
- Upper Pine
- Wonowon
Routes along the Alaska Highway, Baldonnel, Charlie Lake, Grand Haven, Halfway, Hudson’s Hope, Montney, Taylor, W Bypass North and Special Needs buses continue to run as scheduled.
Despite the transportation disruptions, schools remain open.
School District 60’S Transportation service says the cold snap will be taken one day at a time, with no certainty if cancellations will continue into tomorrow. Parents are advised to monitor school websites, social media channels, or subscribe to text alerts for updates.
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning with the possibility that wind chill values could near minus 40 overnight into Tuesday morning across the Peace Region.
DriveBC is also urging caution on the roads, with slippery conditions along Highway 97. Motorists are advised to take extra precautions and drive according to the conditions.
