Enbridge has revealed details of its Birch Grove Brownfield expansion for the T-North pipeline.

The expansion will add 179 million cubic feet of LNG per day to the pipeline’s capacity, boosting the total to 3.7 billion cubic feet per day.

The short haul pipeline spans from the Fort Nelson area to its compressor station in Chetwynd, with the extension seeing a pipeline being driven into B.C.‘s Montney shale basin to support LNG exports from the Lower Mainland.

“Our continued commitment to operational excellence gives us confidence that we’ll continue our track record of securing attractive projects and leading the way as we deliver safe, reliable and affordable energy everywhere people need it,” said Enbridge CEO Gregory Ebel during a March 4 investor conference.

The announcement coincided with the Trump administration’s 25% tariff on most Canadian goods and a 10% tariff on Canadian energy products.

“Enbridge will continue to be disciplined as we continuously high-grade our $50 billion opportunity set through the end of the decade,” says Ebel.

However, this is just a portion of Enbridge’s BC pipeline network, which stretches over 3,000 kilometres from northeast BC to the Alberta border and down to the Lower Mainland and American border.

The company has committed $400 million to the expansion, which is expected to be in service by 2028.

This project is one of three energy security initiatives fast-tracked due to the threat of American tariffs.
