Just as maintenance on the North Taylor Hill wraps up Tuesday, motorists are being warned of more traffic delays this week.
Drivers travelling between Dawson Creek and Fort St. John should prepare for delays Thursday as emergency maintenance work is carried out on the Taylor Bridge.
According to David Rhodes, acting quality manager with Dawson Road Maintenance, the bridge will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic beginning Thursday, July 30, from 7 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Dawson Road Maintenance says the repairs are necessary to help prevent additional deterioration of the bridge deck and ensure the structure remains safe for motorists.
The work involves welding on several small sections of the bridge deck. “There are a couple small areas in the bridge deck that require welding to mitigate the risk of further deterioration at that area,” said Rhodes.
Traffic will be controlled by a pilot vehicle while crews complete repairs. Drivers can expect traffic delays throughout the evening and overnight while the work is underway.
Oversized and overweight loads wider than 3.85 metres will not be permitted to cross the bridge during the maintenance window and will have to wait until the work is completed after 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Dawson Road Maintenance is advising motorists to plan ahead and allow extra travel time Thursday night.
The company says stakeholders will be notified if any changes are made to the repair schedule.
