Northern Health has announced a fifth emergency department diversion at the Chetwynd Hospital in just over five weeks.
The health authority announced the closure on social media early Wednesday evening.
Services were supposed to be interrupted until midnight but the health authority announced the diversion was being extended until 7am Thursday.
Officials said the emergency room was closed due to staffing challenges.
Despites Northern Health’s efforts to address staffing issues, it is the 20th time that the Chetwynd ER has been forced to close in 2025.
Northern Health is advising residents needing emergency care to call 911 to be transported to the nearest available facility.
