DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The emergency department at Dawson Creek District Hospital has reopened after a temporary service interruption earlier Wednesday.
Northern Health had announced the emergency room would be closed from 5 a.m. until noon because of staffing challenges.
During the disruption, residents requiring life-threatening emergency care were advised to call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest appropriate facility.
The diversion has since ended and emergency services have resumed at the hospital.
Northern Health continues to advise residents to check its emergency department status webpage for the most up-to-date information, noting that service levels can change on short notice because of staffing availability.
The temporary closure was the latest in a series of emergency department interruptions affecting rural and northern communities across British Columbia as health authorities continue to face recruitment and staffing pressures.
Residents experiencing a medical emergency are still encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
