The emergency department at the Chetwynd Hospital was on diversion Tuesday night, according to Northern Health.
The service interruption was announced via social media. The ER was closed on Tuesday from 8:00pm until 5:00am on Wednesday.
The health authority said the diversion was a result of ‘staffing challenges.’ Northern Health is no longer informing residents whether the closure is the result of a doctor or nursing shortage. It is the first hospital diversion in Chetwynd since mid-June.
Residents who were in need of life-saving medical care were being asked to call 9-1-1 to be transported to the nearest available hospital.
