Northeast BC continued to experience severe to exceptional drought conditions in October, according to Agriculture and Agro-Food Canada.
AAFC said most of the region received normal precipitation in October, but it wasn’t enough to fix years of below-normal rainfall.
Very low soil moisture levels and stream flows have affected parts of Northeast BC over the past few years.
According to the BC Drought Information Portal, drought levels reached four out of five in parts of the Peace Region in October.
That was tied for the worse drought conditions across the province, even as many other regions saw conditions improve during the same period.
In early October, Dawson Creek implement water restrictions due to a drought affecting its water source, the Kiskatinaw River.
On November 14, the city renewed its State of Local Emergency for a second time as it seeks support for a temporary solution.
The city is working to obtain permits to temporarily pump water from the Peace River into its reservoir.
Dawson Creek remains in Stage 3 Water Conservation measures until the situation improves.
