A 22-year-old man has been charged for allegedly hitting a woman he knew with his vehicle in Grande Prairie.

RCMP said officers were called to a hit-and-run crash at about 12:45 p.m. on Friday and found a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Surveillance footage from the area showed the woman walking on the sidewalk when she was hit by the driver, who then left the scene.

RCMP said the driver was identified as a man who knew the woman. He has been charged with aggravated assault, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at the scene after knowingly causing bodily harm.

The woman’s condition had stabilized by Monday, Mounties said.

The man was taken into custody and was scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice on Monday
