FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The Fort St. John RCMP is investigating a drive-by shooting that damaged several properties in the city early Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.
Police say officers were called to the 9800 block of 108th Avenue at around 1:40 a.m. on August 6 after receiving reports of a shooting.
When frontline officers arrived, they discovered bullet holes in a travel trailer, two neighbouring homes and a vehicle. Despite the damage, no occupants or bystanders were struck by gunfire.
RCMP members secured the area and canvassed the neighbourhood for witnesses, surveillance footage and other evidence.
Investigators have not released any suspect descriptions or information about a possible suspect vehicle.
The investigation has since been taken over by the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit, which is working alongside the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services.
Police say the scene is being held pending approval of a search warrant, after which forensic officers will conduct a more detailed examination for evidence that could help identify those responsible.
“This is believed to be a targeted incident in which thankfully, nobody was injured,” said Constable Christiaan Dreyer, Media Relations Officer with the Fort St. John RCMP. “The Fort St. John RCMP is actively investigating the matter and seeking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has surveillance or dash-camera footage of it.”
Dreyer added that, in light of a recent increase in firearm-related offences in the city, frontline officers, the Street Enforcement Team and the Serious Crimes Unit are dedicating resources to address the trend.
