FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The Doig River Rodeo is set to return to Northeast B.C. on the August long weekend, bringing two days of rodeo action, family activities and live entertainment to the Doig River First Nation.
The 2026 event will take place August 1 and 2, featuring two separate one-day rodeos.
Organizers say rodeo activities will begin with slack at 8 a.m., followed by the junior rodeo at 11 a.m. each day and the main rodeo event at 2 p.m. daily.
Competitors will take part in a range of events including saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, bull riding, bareback riding, ranch bronc riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping.
Organizers say buckles will be awarded in all events each day.
The rodeo will also feature junior events, the popular Wild Pony Race and Mutton Bustin, along with food vendors and a bouncy castle for families attending the weekend festivities.
Free pancake breakfasts are planned for both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Beyond the rodeo arena, attendees can take part in a roast beef dinner following the rodeo and a dance featuring live music from KIKBAK.
Camping will also be available on site for those planning to spend the entire weekend at the event.
Admission is $25 for a weekend pass, while single-day admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children aged six to 12. Seniors and children under six can attend free of charge.
The Doig River Rodeo is expected to draw competitors and spectators from across the Peace Region and Northern B.C. for one of the area’s largest summer rodeo events.
