The Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre in Dawson Creek will be closed for a period of eight weeks for annual maintenance.
“This yearly shutdown helps us keep the facility clean, safe, and running smoothly,” says Mayor Darcy Dober.
The city says they need additional time this year, because some big upgrades and repairs are coming to the aquatic centre. Dober says it’s important to protect this city asset, so it lasts for generations to come.
Work will take place on the main lap pool repairs and there will be upgrade the ozone system. The repair team will drain the pool, deep clean it, fix any damage and regrout the pool floor. The old ozone system is getting replaced with a more reliable and easier to maintain system.
The repair team also is expected to complete routine maintenance on different areas of the centre. They will be working on the leisure pool, tots pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna and change rooms.
The climbing wall will also be closed during the shutdown period. The wall will be reset completely with new routes.
The city says some of the upgrades are already in progress.
The pool will be closed from August 16th to October 10th. The city says they know the pool is an important part of the community and they appreciate the public’s patience.
