DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The City of Dawson Creek has issued updated preliminary results for the 2026 municipal election after discovering an error in the way some votes were added into the election-night totals.

City officials say votes from the second day of advance voting were counted correctly, but were not included in the preliminary totals reported for some candidates when the results were added together.

The city says that votes that were entered into a spreadsheet transfer to some but not all candidates.

Staff reviewed the figures and corrected the totals to include all votes cast.

Despite the correction, the outcome of the mayoral race remains unchanged, with Dwaine Dilworth elected mayor of Dawson Creek with 1,995 votes. Kyle MacDonald finished second with 897 votes.

In a statement, the city said the updated figures remain preliminary and the official declaration of election results will be made by the Chief Election Officer on Tuesday, October 20.

Officials also thanked candidates and residents for their patience while the review was completed.
