According to Northern Health, four family physicians are expected to begin practice in Dawson Creek in 2026.
The update comes after CJDC-TV News reported Wednesday that a family physician will be closing his practice in the community next month.
Two of the physicians are expected to start practicing in the coming months, Northern Health says.
A third doctor is expected to begin work in the spring, followed by a fourth in the summer.
The health authority says the four new doctors will join 15 family physicians and several associate physicians currently practicing in Dawson Creek.
Many of these physicians also fill multiple roles in the community, working at the hospital and in long-term care.
Northern Health says it is actively trying to recruit another four doctors for Dawson Creek.
As of January 2026, the Ministry of Health says 73.1 per cent of residents in the Northern Health region are attached to a primary care provider.
The ministry says there are more than 20,500 people in that same region on the Health Connect Registry waiting to be attached to a primary care provider.
