Students at Dawson Creek Secondary School were placed under ‘secure and hold’ Thursday afternoon.
Dawson Creek RCMP say that a student made a comment about the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting tragedy, on the messaging app Discord.
Officers arrived at the South Peace Campus around 1pm. In an online statement, School District 59 said the decision was made out of “a heightened sense of concern as we prioritize safety of our school community.”
RCMP said there is no risk to student safety and police are working with the school, assisting the district with their security procedures.
Out of an abundance of caution, officers have temporarily removed the student from the school.
