The city of Dawson Creek is removing some equipment from playgrounds because of potential safety issues.

An external review said some play structures in playgrounds across the city “do not meet the current Canadian Safety Association (CSA) safety standards.”

It was recommended that the city remove some structures from certain parks, while in other cases, it was suggested to upgrade the equipment or combined it with nearby play areas.

The city is scheduled to remove park equipment in seven parks. Tremblay Park is the location with the most outdated structure, with eight removals planned.

The other six parks with structures no longer meeting the current CSA are 99 Avenue Park, Crescent Park, Fred Flavelle Park, Grandview Park, Hillcrest Pack and Kin Park.

The city is also planning to add a brand-new playground and add more upgrades in 2026.

The new structure will be located at 16 Street and 104/105 Avenue. The Harry Morrow Ball Diamonds in the South Peace Multiplex Sports Fields will get a complete makeover.

“This work is part of a broader effort to maintain safe and accessible recreational spaces for all residents,” said the city.

The structure removals will start in mid-July. You can find what playground equipment are targeted on the city of Dawson Creek website.
