Dawson Creek RCMP are reminding the public not to leave their vehicles unlocked this summer. Mounties said a Ford F-150 was stolen because the owner not only forgot to lock their doors, but they also left an electronic key hidden inside.

That allowed a suspect to be able to start the vehicle and drive away. Police were able to locate the stolen truck through the vehicle’s FordPass App.

A spike belt was deployed in an attempt to stop the stolen truck. While the tires were punctured as a result of the spike belt, the suspect kept driving.

The truck was later found near the water tower in Pouce Coupe. Police have yet to identify the suspect and said their investigation is ongoing.
