Dawson Creek Pride Society hosting 5th annual Pride Walk Sunday

As LGBTQ+ Americans deal with the “scary” reality of living under U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, a New Brunswick Pride group has invited their neighbours south of the border to join their Pride week celebrations. The Dawson Creek Pride Society is preparing to host its annual Pride Walk this Sunday, bringing the community together in support of the LGBTQ2S+ community.

The fifth annual walk begins at 2 p.m., starting from the Art Gallery parking lot and making its way to the Dawson Creek Library.

Organizers are encouraging participants to arrive about 30 minutes early to gather before the event begins.

The walk is free to attend and pet friendly, with residents encouraged to wear their brightest rainbow attire in a show of support and celebration.

The City of Dawson Creek says there will be no road closures for the event, but drivers are being asked to use caution due to increased pedestrian traffic along 10th Street during the walk.

In addition to Sunday’s event, the Pride flag is being raised in front of City Hall Friday, ahead of Pride Month in June.

“The flag serves as a symbol of inclusion, acceptance, and support for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members, families, friends, and allies,” city officials said.

Organizers say the annual walk continues to be an opportunity to celebrate diversity and bring residents together in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
