A Dawson Creek pharmacy has announced it will be closing permanently on May 29 after almost 50 years of service.

Clinic Pharmacy Dawson Creek has posted a notice on social media announcing the closure.

“We have poured our hearts and souls into advocating for our patients every day, while trying to fill the gaps in the health care system for those without a family doctor,” the notice stated.

The pharmacy says it could not survive the current health care crisis with no end in sight, adding they have spent three years trying to find a successor for ownership but have now reached an impasse.

“The harsh reality is it no longer makes sense to continue to operate with the burdens of rising operating costs, decades of underfunding, a buckling health care system and over-regulation,” the notice said.

The notice also says pharmacists are always at the bottom of the list of priorities to receive funding from the province.

Patients can refill prescriptions until May 22, while pickups and transfers end on May 29, the same day an appreciation event will be hosted.
