Dawson Creek, B.C. - Dwaine Dilworth has officially taken office as Dawson Creek’s mayor, joining six councillors for the start of a new four-year term.
“There won’t always be easy answers, but great ideas can come from anyone and I look forward to hearing from people across our community,” Dilworth said during Monday’s inaugural meeting.
Dilworth takes over from outgoing Mayor Darcy Dober. The six councillors serving alongside him are Gregg Apolonio, Rob Atkinson, Amy Kaempf, Judy Kucharuk, Steven Reynolds and Mike Sudnik.
During its first meeting, council appointed Dilworth as Dawson Creek’s representative on the Peace River Regional District board. Rob Atkinson will serve as the alternate director.
Amy Kaempf was appointed as the alternate representative on the Dawson Creek / Pouce Coupe Fire Management Committee.

Council also approved its acting mayor schedule for 2027, with each councillor taking a two-month turn in the role.
In his closing remarks, Dilworth thanked residents for voting and putting their trust in the new council. He also recognized the work of the previous mayor and council.
“I’m also thankful for the incredible team of people working at the City who support our residents and this council,” Dilworth said.
He said the new council will face challenges, but believes collaboration will help the community move forward.
“My goal is simple: to work hard as a team, to be accountable and to help make Dawson Creek a safe, strong and thriving community that we’re all proud to call home,” he said.
