The City of Dawson Creek marked Philippine Independence Day on Monday with a flag raising ceremony at City Hall, recognizing the contributions of the local Filipino community.

The city said it “proudly raised the flag of the Philippines” and thanked KALIPI South Peace for organizing the event, which brought residents together to celebrate culture, heritage, and freedom.

The ceremony, held late Monday morning at the City Hall flag grounds, was part of broader celebrations recognizing both Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month.

Organizers with the Filipino-Canadian community in Dawson Creek extended an invitation to the public, highlighting the importance of the event as an opportunity to come together and celebrate the community’s history and presence in the Peace Region.

The event also included a message of thanks to the city, alongside a focus on strengthening community connections through cultural celebration.

Philippine Independence Day commemorates the country’s declaration of independence in 1898, and events like the Dawson Creek ceremony are held in communities across Canada each year.
