A Dawson Creek man has been charged he had been reported throwing beef jerky and yelling Bible verses at students at a school in Edson

The man then allegedly fired a cap gun in the direction of an Alberta school principal on Tuesday.

“When the principal confronted the male, the male pulled out a cap gun and fired three shots in the principal’s direction and left in a car,” RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.

Mounties pursued the man for “a long distance” west on Highway 16, eventually arresting him without incident when he stopped at a farm east of Hinton.

Police believe he “randomly attended” the school on Tuesday and say no students witnessed the cap gun being shot.

The 39-year-old from Dawson Creek was charged with two imitation firearm offences, mischief, flight from police, and dangerous driving.

Bryce Montgomery Petrick was scheduled to appear in court in Edson on Thursday.
