Dawson Creek Kodiaks set to move to Ovintiv Events Centre for upcoming season

The Dawson Creek Kodiaks will play to the Ovintiv Events Centre for the 2025-26 season.

General Manager Colby Wagar said the team has wanted to move to the “state-of-the-art facility” for a few seasons.

He said the opportunity presented itself after the city decided to convert one of the Memorial Arena’s ice surfaces to dry floor for community events.

Wagar is excited for his team to play in a larger facility and said expects bigger crowds.

“We played in the Ovintiv Centre last year for about a month, and our attendance doubled,” he said.

The new facility can sit more than 5,000 people, which Wagar admitted was a concern at first.

“As we bring in more people, the atmosphere will be there when the horns go off, when you score goals, and people are cheering,” he added.

Wagar spent the summer on the road recruiting new players to Dawson Creek. He said five new recruits will join the team this season, adding that most of the veterans are returning, and some very good local players will be coming up the ranks.

Training camp starts next week, and the first puck drop of the regular season is on September 12 against the Fairview Flyers.
