Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary launches fundraiser to support dementia patients

The Dawson Creek and District Hospital Auxiliary is rallying community support for dementia patients at Rotary Manor through a new fundraising initiative.

Volunteers are aiming to raise over $19,000 to purchase a Tovertafel console—an interactive system designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals living with dementia by engaging them in a variety of stimulating games.

“Does not matter how big or how small the donation is, each and every donation will put us that much closer to helping out seniors,” wrote President Fern Hansen in a letter highlighting the initiative.

If the fundraising campaign is successful, the goal would be to purchase a second Toberfel to be installed on the second-floor of the hospital.

Statistics underscore the growing prevalence of dementia, an incurable condition that affects memory, language, and cognitive abilities. Approximately 50 percent of people aged 85 and older are impacted, and nearly 78,000 residents across British Columbia are living with some form of the disease, according to the Auxiliary.

Donations toward this cause can be made payable to the Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary, with tax receipts available for contributions of $20 or more.

Those seeking additional information about the campaign are being asked to contact a member of the Auxiliary.
